It has been an honor for the Islamic Community in Spain, and the Spanish Muslims to have been represented by Hafith Umar Bermejo Benedetti at the 58th International Al-Quran Memorisation Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Young men with impeccable character, true examples of determination, perseverance, discipline and an inspiration for future generations.

Many have continued to study the science din, others have followed other university careers, or have taken positions of responsibility in various Muslim communities in Spain and elsewhere in the world.

Umar Bermejo is the brother of the also Hafith (the one who has memorized the Quran), Shaykh Ahmed Bermejo, Imam of the Great Mosque of Granada.

Two years ago, in the 56th edition, Spain was represented by Hafith Bashir Castiñeira Gamo, in the category of recitation.
