In a special initiative, Hayy Khalid Nieto, vice-president of the Seville Mosque Foundation, recently led a tour dedicated to the history of Islamic Seville. Although this type of route is not a common occurrence or something offered by the Foundation, this event provided an exceptional opportunity for community members to delve deeper into our rich Andalusian legacy. <\/p>\n\n
Despite the intense heat, a remarkable number of participants joined the tour to walk through the places that forged the history of the city<\/sup>. The main objective of this visit was to bring local Muslims closer to their historical identity, allowing them to explore the vestiges of Dar al Imara<\/em> and Qasr al Mubarak<\/em><\/sup>. <\/p>\n\n
The itinerary, which started from the Plaza de la Encarnaci\u00f3n, allowed attendees to discover strategic points that connect our past with the present. Some of the highlights were: <\/p>\n\n
\n
The Ibn Adaabbas Mosque:<\/strong> Identified as the first great mosque in Seville.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
The Torre del Oro and the Torre de la Plata:<\/strong> Emblematic structures that were part of the city’s defensive complex.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
The Gate of Abdelaziz:<\/strong> Also known as the Arquillo de la Plata, which was part of the enclosure of the Alc\u00e1zar and not of the main wall of the city.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
The Giralda:<\/strong> Attendees were able to observe the three historical states of the tower.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
The legacy of al-Mu’tamid:<\/strong> The group visited the memorial plaque dedicated to King al-Mu’tamid, a key historical figure in the restoration of the towers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
This tour was much more than an architectural study; was a reminder of the phrase Al mulku lilah wal baqa lilah<\/em> (“Dominion belongs to Allah and permanence to Him”), which resonates in every historical corner of Seville<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n
