Becoming a Muslim

Every day thousands of people accept Islam in the world. Islam is an individual and social choice for many people of our time. Islam is a spiritual path of worship and closeness to the Creator, as well as a guide of wisdom in each and every aspect of life.

Where to go? Any Muslim can be your guide, men and women enlightened by the light of prayer, fasting and community life. Sincerity, generosity and beauty in their actions and integrity in their behavior are their signs. In every city or town you will find them. There has to be a Mosque near you or in a neighboring city.

We in Seville and thousands of Muslims in many parts of Spain can help you. Contact us.

Every Muslim can guide you in the essentials: only Allah is worthy of worship. Submission and thankfulness are due to Him alone. He is the One, One in His Divinity. His Lordship embraces all things that exist, known and unknown, visible and invisible. You will discover a clear and clear guidance from the Creator of humanity to realize yourself, and you will find that the broad and generous parameters of His Revelation are intact and unadulterated. You will come into contact with the unique inspiration contained in the details of the life, sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and the irrefutable proofs of his prophetic mission. Finally, you will find before you the nobility, generosity and greatness of soul and character of the men and women who formed your community, your companions and followers, who constitute the best human community that has existed in all times for their justice, integrity and sincerity.

In Islam you will find, perhaps to your surprise and amazement, parameters and orientations that are universal and valid for all times and places. Confirmed by common sense and by the values recognized by all humanity (ma’ruf).

How to become a Muslim? Becoming a Muslim is a simple and easy action, and yet it has profound and far-reaching consequences. A person accepts Islam by declaring with conviction and sincerity, freely and without coercion, in front of Muslim witnesses, that: ‘There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger.’

Said in Arabic:

Ash-hadu an laa ilaha illa-llaah
Wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadar Rasulullah.

Whoever pronounces the shahadah, whether male or female, agrees to perform five daily prayers, to fast the month of Ramadan, to give each year a fraction (2.5%) of his accumulated and superfluous wealth – if he has any – to be distributed among the needy and to undertake at least once in his life – if he has the means to do so – the pilgrimage to the House of Allah in Mecca.

These practices transform the person internally, change his behavior and his character, making him a member of a brotherhood that knows no borders or geographical, racial or class limits. This simple act opens the doors to the immense regions of knowledge and personal development and is the first step on the path to lasting success, which is not extinguished by death.
