A delegation from the Fundación Mezquita de Sevilla had the honour of being received yesterday by His Excellency, Mr.
Zainal Abidin Bakar, Malaysian ambassador to Spain.
Representing the Foundation, Luqman Nieto, vice-president of the Mezquita de Sevilla Foundation, and Muhsin Sierra, director of public relations, attended the meeting.
Also present was Khaeriah Zaehera, Secretary and Head of Chancery of the Embassy of Malaysia.
The purpose of the meeting was to invite the Ambassador to the XIX edition of the Almonaster Islamic Culture Conference, which the Seville Mosque Foundation organizes together with the City Council of this Huelva town, to show the culture and traditions of this Muslim-majority country.
The last edition was the first in which the initiative to invite a Muslim-majority country to these days took place in order to show the diversity of cultures, traditions and people of the different Muslim-majority countries.
Last year, the XVIII edition of these conferences, the guest country was Indonesia and was attended by the ambassador at that time of this country, Ibu Yuli Mpuni, and a great deployment by this embassy to show the traditions and culture of this country.
Given the success of this initiative, it has been considered appropriate to continue with it and we are very grateful to the Ambassador of Malaysia and all the embassy staff for their acceptance to participate and enthusiasm for the proposal.
We hope that this will be a way of strengthening relations between Spain and Malaysia and we are sure that it will be of great benefit to all those attending the XIX Conference on Islamic Culture in Almonaster.
