Summary of the XXI Conference on Islamic Culture in Almonaster la Real, Huelva, Spain

On October 8, 9 and 10, the XXI Conference of Islamic Culture took place in Almonaster la Real, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, located in the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche in Huelva.

This year’s event, although very limited due to health restrictions and the caution of the organizers, has been welcomed with great enthusiasm and enthusiasm since last year had to be canceled and with the hope that next year it can be celebrated in all its splendor.

In this edition the participation of the Seville Mosque Foundation consisted of a beautiful photographic exhibition of mosques of the world; the inauguration of the event with local and provincial authorities; a brilliant conference by Ahmed Gros, entitled ¨Islam, the open secret of Europe¨; the guided visit to the Mosque by Khalid Nieto under the title of ¨justice in Islam¨, and the evening of dhikr that this year was behind closed doors with a very limited capacity.

The inauguration was presided over by the mayor of the town, Jacinto Vázquez, together with the president of the Provincial Council of Huelva, María Eugenia Limón, and the vice-president of the Seville Mosque Foundation, Jalid Nieto. With the presence of the Mayor of Huelva, Gabriel Cruz Santana, José Fiscal, Deputy of the Junta de Andalucia and other authorities in the area.

The first mayor has expressed his satisfaction “to return to celebrate an event that has accompanied us for the past 20 years and has become a cultural reference of autumn in the Sierra and the province of Huelva. He has also highlighted the “high quality of the programming of this edition, since, although some key elements such as the souk or the international symposium are missing, we have managed to maintain a wide variety of interesting and attractive proposals for attendees”.

For her part, the president of the Provincial Council of Huelva, María Eugenia Limón, has referred to the Islamic Culture Days of Almonster as “a symbol for our province, which are a song to our cultural heritage -both material and immaterial-, culture and creativity”. It has also highlighted its position as “a reference in values such as respect, rapprochement, dialogue and coexistence, together with the vindication of our Andalusian past”.
