TIME SURA
Mequi. It has 3 aleyas and descended after the sura “Have we not opened you?”.
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
(1) For Time*!
* [This oath can also be understood as: By the evening! or By the time of ‘Asr (the evening prayer)! according to the meanings of the word].
(2) That it is true that man is at a loss.
* That is to say: He goes towards death in a process of wearing out and loss of his life and of everything he does and has. Another meaning can also be understood, which complements the previous one: “For the time! …that man walks towards perdition”].
(3) But not so those who believe, perform good deeds, commend themselves to the truth, and commend themselves to patience.
