Meeting with the City Councils of Almonaster and Mértola

A historic meeting took place in Almonaster, Huelva, between the municipalities of Almonaster la Real and Mértola, and the Seville Mosque Foundation, with the aim of initiating preparations for the respective 25th anniversaries of the Islamic Culture Conference of Almonaster and the Islamic Festival of Mértola.

The Seville Mosque Foundation and the Islamic Community in Spain have co-organized and participated in both festivals, both in Almonaster and Mértola, for the past 25 years. Their purpose has been to create a civilizing bridge, recover the cultural legacy of the past, promote knowledge and coexistence, raise awareness of Islam through the Muslim community, and boost the local economy and tourism.

The meeting was the culmination of an ongoing effort to foster diplomatic and neighborly relations for more than 30 years with both municipalities. We hope that initiatives and collaborations will emerge from this meeting that will be of benefit to its people, beyond the festivals.
