Press Release – Algeciras Attack

The Seville Mosque Foundation expresses its strongest rejection to the abominable attacks perpetrated last night, where the sacristan of the Church of La Palma de Algeciras died and the priest of the Church of San Isidoro was wounded among others.

With sorrow and dismay, for the murder and attacks, we want to express our sincere condolences to the family of the victim, wish a speedy recovery to the injured, and solidarity with the diocese of Cádiz and the people of Algeciras.

We have always expressed, and reiterate, the feeling of revulsion at such crimes and in particular those unjustifiably perpetuated in the name of Islam and Muslims.

We trust in the government and state security forces to ensure that the guilty party is punished to the fullest extent of the law and that no one ever has to experience events like these again.

We trust that the media and authorities with voice and responsibility will use it to promote harmony and coexistence in our country. And that the victims are respected and not used by anyone for political purposes.

And of course we rely in turn on a mature and discerning society, which distinguishes without the slightest doubt between the acts of a nihilistic lunatic and the Muslim community.
