Tafsir class (commentary and explanation of the Qur’an), given by Imam Hajj Abdel Ghani Melara, in which he explains the tafsir, based on several of the recognized commentators.
(1) In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate*.
*[This expression that heads all the surahs of the Qur’an, except for no. 9, is known as “al-basmalah”.
The commentators interpret it as being implied: “I begin in/with the name of Allah…” or: “The beginning is in the name of Allah…”
There are also those who interpret it as an oath, i.e., “By the name of Allah…” and it being understood: “that what comes next is true”.
And there is disagreement as to whether it is a verse of the Qur’an, except within Surah of the Ants, No. 27, verse 30, where there is no doubt.
One opinion says that it is not a verse of either Surah al-Fatihah (the one that opens the Book) or any other of the ones it heads; and this is the opinion of the lmam Malik.
Another says that it is a verse in each surah, opinion of Abdullah b.
al-Mubarak.
And a third says that it is a verse in Surah al-Fatihahah but not at the beginning of the others; and this is the opinion of lmam al-Shafi’.](2) Praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. *[Lit. Praise belongs to Allah, it is from and for Allah. This implies that it comes from Him and He deserves it.]

It designates everything that exists except Allah.
Its linguistic root is related to the names “alam” or “alámah”, which mean sign or sign, alluding to the fact that everything in existence is in itself a sign, a hint, that points to its Creator and Originator.
There are commentators who explain that it refers to the people of each era, based on the meaning it seems to have elsewhere in the Qur’an.
And in this sense too, lbn ‘Abbas says that they are the jinn and the men.
And Abu Sa’id al-Khudri said that Allah created forty thousand worlds, one of which is ours.](3) The Merciful, the Compassionate*. *[In Arabic “rahman” and “rahim”, which are two attributes of Allah that come from the root “rahima”, whose noun “Rahmah” means will to do good and mercy. “Rahman” implies that this will to good includes all creatures without distinction. In “rahim” it is more specific to believers and the Hereafter. In addition, “rahman” is a name unique to Allah, while “rahim” can be applied to a human being.]
1. Surah Al-Fatiha (The Surah That Opens the Book)
— Classes are open, every Monday between the Maghrib and Isha. It is a unique opportunity that we have in Seville to benefit from these classes of Hajj Abdel Ghani, to whom we are tremendously grateful for his service and dedication. — Hajj Abdel Ghani’s first major project was to undertake the translation of the Qur’an into the Spanish language, which was a process of almost twenty years in which other Spanish Muslims collaborated and in which he studied the traditional tafsirs and sought an expression in the Spanish language that was appropriate for the people of this time.
This translation has been published several times.
One of them by the Mujamma’ al-Malik Fahd li Ṭiba’a al-Muṣḥaf ash-Sharif of Medina al-Munawwara, being required by such a body due to the prestige he already enjoyed among Spanish speakers.
And another by the Turkish Ministry of Religious Affairs of Turkey, among several other editions no less careful and important.
He has also translated such important texts as: Mukhtaṣar al-Bukhari, al-Muwwaṭṭa of Imam Malik, ash-Shifa and Qawa’id al-Islam, both of the qaḍi ‘Iyaḍ, the diwan of the shaikh Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥabib and Tanbih al-Ghafilin of as-Samarqandi.
