Last Wednesday 25th was a doubly special day! In addition to our first visit, we had the pleasure of welcoming back to the Fundación Mezquita de Sevilla the students of the CIEE Seville Global Institute of our Old Town.
We were accompanied by students of the subject “Politics and Society in the Contemporary Arab World”. The course is specifically geared towards helping students understand the complex historical, social, and political transformations of the Middle East and North Africa through an interdisciplinary analysis of Arab-Islamic societies, from the Ottoman era to modern nation-states. This was his second visit to the Foundation.
The students came looking for a personal and experiential account of how cultural and socio-political dynamics affect the Muslim community and what guidance Islam offers to face current problems. It was an extremely enriching dialogue where history and faith went hand in hand to bring clarity to complex issues.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Rubén Díaz, from CIEE, and his magnificent students. His respect, his excellent preparation and his warmth towards the Fundación Mezquita de Sevilla made the visit exceptional. It is a privilege to be part of your learning journey!
