Summary of the VII National Congress “Dismantling Islamophobia”

The Fundación Mezquita de Sevilla is proud to report on our successful participation in the VII National Congress “Dismantling Islamophobia”, a seminal two-day event that recently concluded. Organised by the Moroccan Association for the Integration of Immigrants, this Congress took place in a hybrid format at the Faculty of Education of the University of Malaga on 21 and 22 October. As the only national forum specialized in this field, the event served as a crucial space for reflection and the definition of strategies against Islamophobia in Spain.

The Congress closed with a high turnout and a palpable sense of collective action, leaving a powerful mark on all attendees. During the two days, the event registered a total attendance of 612 people, fostering a rich debate along nine thematic tables and two large conference-debates, with the contribution of more than 42 brave and brilliant speakers.

A particularly powerful moment was the Interfaith Roundtable, which successfully brought together representatives of Islam, Christianity and Judaism. This exchange demonstrated that through dialogue, respect, and shared hope, different traditions can convey a unified message of mutual understanding.

Collective thinking spaces effectively addressed Islamophobia through ethical engagement and professional practice, focusing on key areas including:

The Legal Sphere: Analysis of rights, discrimination and guarantees.

The Social Sphere: Highlighting migrant experiences and support networks.

The Communicative Field: Questioning narratives, media and representations.

The Institutional Sphere: Proposals for a fairer political transformation.

The contribution of the Foundation through our President, Ibrahim Hernández Martínez, who had a speech on the second day of the event. His presentation, entitled: “Islam in the public space: coexistence, visibility and the right to the city,” provided a closed and essential perspective to the national debate, from personal responsibility and coexistence between neighbors. We were honoured to lend our voice in this key space dedicated to dialogue and the search for effective strategies against discrimination.

We extend our deep gratitude to all who spoke, listened, cared and contributed to the success of this Congress. We recognize that this event is not a conclusion; it is a point of multiplication. The commitment started here will continue to build collective strength in every neighborhood and classroom.

The Mezquita de Sevilla Foundation remains dedicated to dismantling prejudices with love, truth and action.
