On Friday, April 10, 2026, the Fundación Mezquita de Sevilla had the honor of receiving a specialized delegation of the Spanish Red Cross at our center in Plaza Ponce de León. In a meeting defined by “spiritual warmth” and “technical precision”, our President, Secretary and the social services team met with Ana, María Luisa, Carmen and the rest of the Red Cross International Protection Programme team.
Having already become familiar with our work at the foundation, the purpose of this visit has been to share our programs and discuss how to expand and coordinate them effectively. Our fundamental duty is to ensure that no person is left without the support needed to restore their human dignity.
The representatives of the Red Cross belong to the Programme for the Reception and Integration of Applicants and Beneficiaries of International Protection. This vital program focuses on:
- Social Intervention: Provide dignified reception and meet the basic needs of those fleeing conflict or persecution.
- Psychological Care: Professional support led by specialists like Ana Monreal to help people process the trauma of displacement.
- Educational Integration: Orientation in the Spanish school system and language acquisition, managed by experts such as María Luisa and Carmen.
During the meeting, our teams shared the methodologies of the Zakat Seville mechanism. We discussed how our “duty of care” and the distribution of Zakat can contribute to and strengthen the Red Cross’ efforts, ensuring that no one in our city lacks a “spiritual and financial livelihood” to back them up.
Our doors remain open to those who serve society, recognizing that our role as a foundation is to be a pillar of support and service for all of humanity. Social service is not secondary to faith; it is a manifestation of it.
We ask Allah to bless the Red Cross team, to protect their noble work and to guide our shared efforts to build a healthy, connected and just society that restores dignity to the most vulnerable among us.
