Publication and donation of the Translation of the Meanings of the Noble Qur’an by the Mosque of Seville Foundation

The Fundación Mezquita de Sevilla is pleased to announce the publication and donation of a new print run of 1,000 copies of the Translation of the Meanings of the Noble Qur’an, with commentaries into Spanish by our Imam Khatib, Ustad Abdelgani Melara Navío. Funded entirely through the generous sponsorship of a local donor, these copies will be distributed directly to the mosque to benefit worshippers, students and visitors throughout the community.

This publication responds to the very heart of the founding mandate of the Fundación Mezquita de Sevilla: to preserve, teach and transmit authentic Islamic knowledge, while serving as a clear and welcoming bridge between Islam and the Spanish-speaking world. Providing high-quality copies of this Translation of Meanings free of charge ensures that every member of the local community—whether native Spanish speakers, Muslim converts, or knowledge seekers—has direct access to divine guidance in their own language.

The Translation of the Meanings of Ustad Abdelgani Melara has an exceptional value within the contemporary Spanish-speaking Islamic world. Renowned for its clarity, elegance and fidelity, it is based directly on the classical works of tafsir, including al-Jalalain, Ibn Kazir and at-Tabari, with special emphasis on the great scholars of al-Andalus: Abu ‘Abdillah al-Qurtubí (the Cordovan) and Ibn Juzai al-Kilbi al-Gharnatí (the Granadan).

In approaching the work, Ustad Abdelgani intentionally avoided overly archaic expressions as well as religious terminology with strong Judeo-Christian connotations, opting instead for clear and accessible Spanish prose that conveys the spiritual depth of the text. The translation is also based on an Algerian edition that reproduces the transmission (riwayah) of Imam Warsh from Imam Nafi’ – the recitation that reflects the historical tradition of Medina, preserved for centuries in North Africa and in classical al-Andalus.

The Fundación Mezquita de Sevilla expresses its sincere gratitude to the local donor whose selfless contribution has made this impression possible.

May Allah (SWT) accept this noble act of continuous charity (Sadaqah Jariyah) from our brother, raise his rank in this life and the Hereafter, grant him and his family abundant blessings, protection and good health, and make every letter read from these copies a significant weight in his balance of good deeds on the Day of Judgment. Amen.

The distribution of the 1,000 copies will take place at the foundation’s headquarters, reinforcing the role of the mosque as a sanctuary for worship, learning and community support in Seville.
