Yesterday we presented at the Provincial Council of Huelva the new edition of the Islamic Culture Days of Almonaster la Real, which will be held from October 9 to 12 and which has already celebrated 26 editions as one of the most deeply-rooted cultural events in the province.
We were present at the event together with the mayor of Almonaster, Jacinto José Vázquez; the Councilor for Culture, María José Martín; and the Deputy for Culture, Gracia Baquero, who stressed that these days are part of the cultural identity of Huelva and summarized its essence in one word: encounter.
A heritage that is still alive
One of the central messages was Almonaster’s ability not to remain in contemplation of its past. Its mosque, its streets and its surroundings are transformed during these days into an open stage where culture is felt, shared and reinterpreted. From the Seville Mosque Foundation we wanted to emphasize that these are also “the days of culture of Almonaster”, because they turn its historical tradition into a living culture that is renewed every year.
Programming for everyone
The program includes the XX International Congress, organized together with the University of Seville, dedicated in this edition to female figures in the Arab and Islamic world. In addition to this, there is the traditional souk, theater, music, dance, juggling, henna workshops, turbans, Andalusian cuisine and argan oil, as well as falconry and fire shows, exhibitions and guided tours of the mosque.
The Islamic community will play a prominent role with lectures, a guided tour and the traditional evening of dikra and the call to prayer.
Coexistence as a flag
The mayor stressed that Almonaster is an example of real coexistence: “People live together here without looking at colour, race or religion”. An idea that runs through the entire programme and that makes these days much more than a cultural event: a way of understanding tradition as something open, shared and projected into the future.
From 9 to 12 October, Almonaster la Real awaits you.
