A third of a thousand residents of the Sevillian neighbourhood of Los Bermejales concentrated yesterday in an assembly to sign against the mosque construction project, reports Efe. The president of the neighborhood association in the area, Concepción Rivas, one of the promoters of the meeting, affirmed that there were no “fissures.” “The message to the City Council and the Board is clear: no to the mosque.”
“Here there is no Muslim population that needs the mosque. The health center, the police station or a shopping and leisure center are more priority. We know that a mosque is necessary in Seville due to the principle of freedom of worship, but here the neighbors have been ignored, who have not been consulted at any time,” added Rivas.
