It has been a pleasure for the Seville Mosque Foundation to be invited to the inauguration of the Malaysian International Quran Competition 2018 (Majlis Tilwah Dan Menghafaz Al-Quran) during the Foundation’s present trip to Malaysia.
Hafid Bashir Castiñeira has competed on this occasion representing Spain in the recitation category together with Hufad from 55 countries around the world, including Jordan, Morocco, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
This competition of memorization and recitation of the Koran is the oldest in the world and is in its sixtieth edition.
It is important to honor and value those who memorize and teach the Qur’an, as a task that falls among the fardu-l-qifayyah (collective obligations) of a community.
The title of Hafid, which is given to those who memorize the Qur’an, means ‘protector’, since it is the individuals, men and women who memorize the Qur’an, who are its protectors from any change and alteration, with the permission of Allah.
