Yesterday, the Seville Mosque Foundation had the immense honour of visiting Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, fourth and seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia. It was a real pleasure to meet him again; this was the fifth time the Foundation has had the privilege of being hosted by this exceptional leader. Our previous visit, in 2019, took place at the Presidential Palace, while he was still serving as Prime Minister.
After that last visit, and in response to our invitation, the talks between the governments of Malaysia and Spain for an official visit by Tun Mahathir to our country were very advanced. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic thwarted these plans.
In every encounter with Tun Mahathir, we have received valuable advice and inspiration. During this visit, he presented us with a copy of a book of his authorship, an unpublished work not available to the public, with a personal and handwritten dedication to each member of the Foundation’s delegation. This gesture reflects your generosity and your interest in our work. He is a man who, despite his age and having dedicated his life to the service of his country and its people, continues to work tirelessly for a better and fairer world for all. His commitment and perseverance are an inexhaustible source of admiration, especially considering his outstanding role in defending Muslims worldwide.
At the conclusion of our visit, we had the pleasant opportunity to meet his wife, Siti Hasmah binti Haji Mohamad Ali. It was a brief but endearing meeting, in which she said goodbye to us with traditional sweets, a custom that, as she told us, she performs every Friday with her visitors.
From the Seville Mosque Foundation, we express our most sincere gratitude to Tun Mahathir for his warm welcome and constant support. We ask Allah to grant him good health and strength to continue his noble purposes. Amin.
