Kanouté prevents the closure of the Ponce de León mosque / Diario de Sevilla Categories: FUNDACION

The mosque in Plaza Ponce de León will not close. After months of uncertainty about its future, the Muslim community who have frequented this temple for six years will not have to find another location. The Sevilla F.C. player Frederic Oumar Kanoute has taken ownership of the propertie and has guaranteed their religious use.

The mosque in the Plaza Ponce de León is the temple of reference for Muslims of Spanish, Algerian and Senegalese nationality, in contrast to the Macarena mosque, where the faithful are Moroccan and whose leaders have a close relationship with the consulate in Seville of the North African country. “The faithful of Ponce de León are very diverse. If not for Kanoute, we would have been without a temple on Fridays. This day of the week we gather more and more worshipers, this mosque is becoming too small for us. Let’s see if Justice asserts itself so that we will soon have the Los Bermejales mosque open ”.
