Visit to the Great Mosque of Granada with Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra Categories: FUNDACION Timelines: Mezquita

In May we made a special visit to the Great Mosque of Granada and Center for Islamic Studies, together with the architect Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra, and his study team, our technical representative Alia Gutiérrez and the president of the Foundation, Ibrahim Hernández. We are especially grateful to Yusuf Díaz, who guided us on an exhaustive tour of the mosque and its facilities, providing us with valuable perspectives on the conceptual and architectural design that marked each phase of development of this Granada project.

Although we do not intend to replicate either the design or the concept of the Great Mosque of Granada, getting to know this important precedent in person on which our inspiration is based was enormously enriching for the whole team. The experience allowed us to directly analyse the flow of people, the distribution of spaces and all those construction and functional details that can only be appreciated in situ.

This visit has had a profound impact on our project team, offering us a real and inspiring perspective on the unique possibilities presented by the future Islamic Cultural Centre of Seville. Immersion in this architectural reference has provided us with valuable tools to enrich our own design, always with respect for tradition and the search for an identity of its own for Seville.
